Overview This investigation utilized a large, nationally representative retrospective database (Cerner Health Facts®) to examine rates of dosing guideline non-adherence in corticosteroids prescribed to hospitalized children with asthma based on weight status, with a special focus on children with obesity. We found that children with obesity are more likely to receive steroid doses that do not adhere to national dosing guidelines. These findings highlight the need for focused study of medications with high degrees of prescribing practice variation in children with obesity that could be putting this population of children at higher risk of adverse events.
