research overview Dr. Portnoy has done research in environmental assessment and interventions as a treatment for respiratory conditions such as asthma and allergic rhinittis. Dr. Portnoy also helped to develop a home environmental assessment program. He started the pollen and mold count for the Kansas City area and has published numerous papers on the effect of climate change on aeroallergens. More recently, Dr. Portnoy has written about Telemedicine as a new model for delivering care and he also has been involved in evidence-based medicine as a co-author of systematic reviews and the development of practice parameters for allergy. His current projects involve new ways to diagnose and treat patients with food allergy and better ways to interpret and use diagnostic tests using a Bayesian approach.
