research overview Dr. Goldman’s current clinical and research interests include adverse drug reactions experienced by pediatric patients, particularly to antibiotics, and the overall impact of adverse drug reactions on antibiotic prescribing practices. She is interested in the mechanisms by which antibiotics cause severe drug reactions. Her long-term goal is to individualize therapeutic treatment in children that will allow for optimal care while minimizing undesired drug effects. Currently Dr. Goldman leads an interdisciplinary team to define mechanisms of adverse drug reactions associated with a commonly prescribed antibiotic (R01GM129783 PI: Goldman). She also serves as Medical Director of our hospital-wide Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP). The ASP team includes physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and a data analyst. The overarching goal of the program is to optimize antibiotic therapy at Children’s Mercy. The program provides guidance on how to best use antibiotics daily throughout the hospital.
