Dr. Nicole (Nikki) Wood’s research centers on improving the care of children with cancer through three interconnected areas: cancer predisposition, clinical informatics, and environmental health. As Principal Investigator of the institutional biorepository, she aims to build high-quality, clinically annotated biospecimen resources that support translational and precision oncology research. As a board-certified clinical informaticist, Dr. Wood leads efforts to improve clinical decision support, data standardization, interoperability, and harmonization across local and national initiatives. This work helps to ensure high-quality, consistent, and timely care, while also improving diagnostic accuracy, treatment consistency, and long-term outcome tracking. Dr. Wood is nationally recognized for her scholarship on the intersection of childhood cancer and the environment. Through collaborations with environmental health experts across the country, she translates emerging scientific evidence into practical strategies aimed at reducing harmful environmental exposures for children at risk for cancer, with cancer, or surviving cancer. Together, these initiatives advance a research portfolio committed to leveraging data, genomics, and environmental health to improve outcomes for pediatric oncology patients.
